Where does your brain fog show up? Forgetting words? Forgetting to do things?
Losing track of time and space? I totally believe I have a version of time blindness with mine – this is a true story from this year. (and the past 3 if I’m honest).
I KNOW my mums birthday is June 27. But do I know when June 27th is? No.
Did I remember a few days before to send a card? No.
Did I remember to get involved in the ‘shall we arrange a present’ whatsapp? Probably. Can’t remember.
Did I forget to even check if I paid for my share of her present? Yep.
So, it’s not that i DON’T KNOW it’s happening. I just have no idea when it’s happening. Mortifying to receive messages from various siblings saying “looking forward to seeing you!” and me, having no idea what they are on about.
Brain fog is no joke.
It can be embarrassing, debilitating, infuriating and rage-inducing.
It can show up at the worst possible time.
The internet suggests the following things:
And I’d like to ask, are any of those accessible to you? I mean, how do you ACTUALLY reduce stress. Does yoga help?
How do you eat well, when you can’t remember to take the shopping list to the shop.
How do you sleep well, when you’re lying down worrying about the things you might have forgotten?
Firstly, let me validate – you are not going insane. You are not an overnight idiot. You are not losing your mind. It’s just your hormones, and I’ve got something that can help.
I’m going to suggest you try something different.
It’s called EFT. Emotional Freedom Technique. (and yes that sounds a bit woo, and maybe a bit weird). It’s a combination of acupressure and talking therapy. You tap on your face and upper body, and the action, combined with talking, or thinking about how you feel – can create calm and relaxation in the body. Which has the fantastic result of calming the stress you can feel when your brain is brain-fogging.
It can ease the distress that can come from not remembering what you’re supposed to be doing. Or the embarrassment from forgetting what you’re talking about.
Have you tried it?
I use a technique called EFT, also known as tapping. By acknowledging the crappy thoughts, the tough feelings we experience, and airing them, we can release ALL the stresses, the guilt, shame and furious inner chatter that makes you feel like shit during the menopause.
We can’t change who you are, but we CAN change HOW you are. We can’t avoid the menopause, but by using a blend of tapping, coaching and therapeutic tools, we can ease most, if not all of your symptoms.
Together we figure it out.
Menopausal symptoms actually start in your brain. As you progress through the stages of menopause it gradually declines to at least 30% of what it was pre-menopause.
“The truth is that your brain might be going through a transition, or is going through a transition, and needs time and support to adjust,”
Try EFT and see how your stress around brain fog disappears.
